Here is a great quote about the show for you:

I also got a pretty cool mention:

"As a passionate and offbeat newly married couple, Shelly Hacco and Bill Doherty Jr. as her dim-witted hubby who can't remember her name... are a TON OF FUN!"

Life in L.A. review RAVES about Drop Dead!!

Life in L.A. RAVES about Drop Dead!!!!

Here is a great quote about the show for you:

"There is no shortage of the characters slapping, betraying, or murdering each other. This physical comedy will astonish, confuse, and exhilarate you as you try to figure out whodunit. Go watch Drop Dead! so you too can experience the thrills of live theatre. This play pushes boundaries and will not disappoint anyone looking for laughter."

I also got a really cool mention in it, too:

"Bill Doherty Jr. plays Brent Reynolds humorously, and it is delightful to watch him play the character with such lighthearted charm."

Broadway World review RAVES about Drop Dead!

The Broadway World review came in and they gave us a rave!!! Here is a great quote about the show for you:

"DROP DEAD [is] hysteria and a hit comedy! Each actor is perfectly cast and chews the scenery with gusto throughout the play. Van Zandt as the director was the icing on the cake as his brilliant understanding of the characters and timing needed to pull off the sight gags resonates from within his body, mind and soul."

I also got an awesome mention in it, too:

"DROP DEAD! lead actor Alexander is played by Brent Reynolds (Bill Doherty Jr.) in a lavender waistcoat worthy of any Shakespearean role."

Bill Doherty Jr. takes the Larry Moss workshop performing "In a Dark Dark House"

This is my third season with Larry Moss. This time around I performed a little over 25 minutes of the final scene of Neil Labutes' play "In a Dark Dark House" with my scene partner Aaron McPherson.

The biggest challenge for me this time around on top of tackling Neil LaBute was juggling the work that needed to go into this play (which is a beast! Some of the hardest dialogue I've ever had to learn.), but also developing my character for the play "Drop Dead", working full time rehearsals, and building the set for the show. It was definitely a juggling act like no other I've had. With some stress and a shit ton of coffee I think I pulled it off.

I can't believe how much I learn about myself and my technique every time I attend this class. I can really feel the refinement of everything I already know and the application of everything I am learning. I can't wait to see what happens the next time around.

Bill Doherty Jr. gets cast in Billy Van Zandt's play "Drop Dead!"

I got cast in the lead role of Brent Reynolds as Alexander Barrington. If that sounds a bit confusing it's not that bad. The story is a play within a play where what can go wrong in the theater world does go wrong. My character is a 40 to 50 year old washed up actor trying to make his big comeback playing a posh British character in a play not even worthy of an off off broadway opening. It is going to be a ton of fun, and really funny!! I get to grey out my hair and add some facial hair to really polish off the older look. I'll post pics as they come in.

The rest of the cast include:
Cy Creamer
Claudine Claudio
Bill Doherty Jr.
Shelly Hacco
Eddie Liu
Mews Small
Timothy Alonzo
Barry Brisco
Mark Vazquez
Grey Rodriguez

Show runs June 6th to June 28th. Four shows a week Thursday through Sunday. Thursday through Saturday are 8 o'clock shows with 3 o'clock Sunday matinee's.

Here is the press release used to promote the show:
Producer Ronnie Marmo and Theatre 68 are proud to present DROP DEAD! - By playwrights Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore - Opening June 6th at The NoHo Arts Center. This will be the 29th anniversary of the original production, and 23 years since the Los Angeles production originally opened. Marmo and Theatre 68 are elated to be granted the rights for this show for the first time since its original premiere. Landing Van Zandt as the director was the icing on the cake.

A cast of desperate actors attempt to revive their careers in Drop Dead!, a potboiler murder mystery directed by "Wonder Child of the Broadway Stage" Victor Le Pewe. When several actors are murdered during the opening night performance, the remaining thespians must save the show and their careers, solve the mystery, and stay alive long enough to receive their curtain calls.

Originally produced in 1986 Off-Broadway and then in Los Angeles (1991), starring Adrienne Barbeau, Rose Marie, Donny Most, Craig Bierko, Barney Martin, and the authors. It was a smashing success and a hysterical farce, playing to sold out houses.

Bill Doherty Jr. takes the Larry Moss workshop performing "Hurly Burly"

Man, what an awesome experience. Once again! I am absolutely in love with this class. I've learned more in the past two seasons than I have in such a long time combined. Every time I walk out of here I feel more and more inspired, ambitious, and empowered. I learn so much and meet such great and talented people. I am very grateful to be a part of this.

This season I performed a little over 20 minutes of David Rabes' "Hurly Burly with my scene partner Chris Cardano.

Once again thank you Larry Moss for bringing an amazing experience and profound knowledge to L.A. and having me be a part of it.

Movie Poster size and Font

This post is mostly as a reference to myself, but, I figured it will help out others in case you were searching. Every time I am designing a poster for a film I have written down the dimensions for it somewhere and the font used to do the credits with and I lose the info. All the time!!! So here it is:

The two most common used movie poster sizes are:

  • 27 x 40 (Seems to be more practical for indie films)
  • 40 x 60 (Full size movie theater size)
And the font used for the credits is:

Here is the key chart for the Steeltongs font. The zip file also has a printable description of how to work the keys for it.

"Meat and Potatoes" wraps shooting

I wrapped up my supporting role as Bob the prison guard in the short film "Meat and Potatoes" written by Michael Kofsky and Andrea Chamberlin. Directed by Michael Kofsky the film stars Kevin Chamberlin (Disney's "Jessie"), Eric Kramer (Disney's "Good Luck Charlie"), Omar Benson Miller ("8 Mile", "CSI: Miami"), with Bill Doherty Jr.

This film was shot at the Lincoln Heights Jail which is notoriously haunted. That in itself was a great experience. Especially when the sun went down and the only visible light in the whole abandoned jail was coming from the set lights.

Working with these guys was a great experience. It was really cool to be on set with Mike, Andrea, and all of the other guys I've worked with in the east, now on the west coast.

The reviews are in! I think they liked it.

"Crumble: Lay me down Justin Timberlake" has a 92% Sweet rating! I think they liked us. Check out the ratings with bitter lemons here: Bitter Lemons on "Crumble: Lay me Down Justin Timberlake".

I got a pretty sweet mention with the stage mage review: "Bill Doherty Jr. successfully manages triple duty as Janice's lat father, Harrison Ford, and Justin Timberlake (which is hilarious)."

Bill Doherty Jr. takes the Larry Moss workshop performing "Brilliant Traces"

This was one of the most amazing actor coaching experiences I've had to date. The workshop was four days 8 to ten hours of nonstop acting. It was inspirational and inspiring. Larry Moss is one of the best acting coaches I've had the pleasure of working with. He is powerful, passionate, insightful, inspirational and doesn't hold back or sugar coat anything (which is exactly what I need). I absolutely loved the class and am looking forward to the next round.

I performed a 20 minute piece of "Brilliant Traces" by Cindy Lou Johnson with my scene partner Robyn Cohen. We performed it the first time for Larry under our own interpretation, which he critiqued. We rehearsed it again with Larry's notes and performed it again with his adjustments. It was an amazing experience.

Crumble's opening weekend is incredible!!

Harrison Ford
and
Clara (Heidi Rhodes)
Justin Timberlake
and
Janice (Shelly Hacco)
Opening weekend of "Crumble: Lay me down Justin Timberlake" was awesome!! We had a huge house and a great response. The play is written by Sheila Callahan and is a dark coming of age story.
The story revolves around 11 year old Janice who had lost her father christmas the year before and her attempt at reuniting her family and bringing things back to the way they were before the calamity. It is definitely one of those stories you could see five times and still find new things going on with it.

It is a great cast. Shelly Hacco plays Janice, Stephen Kline plays the apartment, Clara is played by Heidi Rhodes, Barbara is played by Julianna Bolles, and the Dad, Justin Timberlake, and Harrison Ford are all played by me (Bill Doherty Jr.)

The play is produced by Shelly and Ronnie Marmo, and is also directed by Ronnie.

But, yes, opening night was a blast!!! It was so much fun. I am looking forward to ripping through this run with everyone.
